AP Studio Art Sample Student Portfolios

2015 Student 2, 3-D Design: Quality

AP Portfolio Score:

4

Rationale for Score

The variety of works demonstrates a good understanding of and engagement with 3-D design issues.

In this quality section:

  • There is a good use of line, shape, color, and texture within the forms; however, the line and shape of the handles obscure the success within the forms. In addition, the scale of the handle on images 1, 2, and 4 is not successful. The handles do not echo the form; therefore, unity is not achieved.
  • Some clear decision making and intention are evident; the repeating semi-circles mimic the shape of the bowl (image 3), and the throw rings add visual interest to the surface of the forms in image 2.
  • The work shows engagement with experimentation (image 3) and risk taking; images 2, 4, and 5 represent attempts to make complex forms, with uneven success.
  • SThe thrown vessels demonstrate good technical competence; however, the finishing of the lips, feet and handles is uneven (images 1, 2, 4, and 5).
