2014 Student 1, Drawing: Breadth

Score (on a 6-point scale)

5/6

Rationale for Score

• The student explores a broad range of visual concepts. Closely observed still-life imagery (for example, image 27) complements inventive compositions (for example, image 33).

• Student voice is evident in the dynamic compositions. The work as a whole demonstrates confidence and engages the viewer with innovative exploration of rhythm and repetition, as in images 29 and 34.

• The student’s diverse mark-making skills and evocative manipulation of materials range from subtle to dramatic: the contrast between images 31 and 36 provides one example.

•  The body of strong work shows a broad range of intensions in its diverse interpretations of subject matter.
